Question:

ER visit or nothing?

I asked this in Pregnancy, but I thought I'd get more answers if I asked in more than one section! :)

I've been having lower back pain tonight, for about 5 hours. Also, I've felt like throwing up almost the whole time, with a headache. I thought maybe it was just because I was at work, so I thought coming home and laying down would help out, so far it hasn't yet... I haven't been home very long though.

I'm 21 weeks pregnant, so I worry. The pain is constant, it doesn't come and go or anything. I just still worry. This is my pregnancy so I don't know what anything feels like. So I worry.

Anyway - - I would just hope its just a backache and a headache, and nothing like labor!! Any opinions would be great!

  1. If you are concerned, call your doctor and see what they want you to do. Even if it is after the doctor's hours, there will be a service in place which will convery your message to him or her.

    Good luck!

  2. The lower back pain is totally normal for someone at 5 months pregnant because of the pressure your new belly is putting on your spine.  Your other symptoms are not so normal.  It's possible you are having a hormone spike--just another normal thing in pregnancy--that is causeing you to feel cruddy, but I would call your doctor to be sure you shouldn't go in to the ER.

Be sure in the meanwhile to drink plenty of water.  Being dehydrated can cause headaches, nausea, and even contractions.  Go chug 2 or 3 tall glasses of room temp. water and see if that helps :)

    Good luck!!

  3. you should call your doctor.

Every hospital I know of recommends that you call your doctor before actually going to the hospital. It can save you and the staff at the hospital time and money.

  4. I would either call your doctor or the ER and see what they recommend. It is better to be safe than sorry.
