ERG defeat Lechuza 10-8
Paco De Narvaez scored five goals and had an assist, as ERG powered a 10-8 win over Lechuza in the ongoing Ylvisaker Cup. The hard-fought match was held at the International Polo Club in Wellington, Florida. The ERG men created some key moves in the first
half, wrapped up goals from De Narvaez in the third set of play and kept back the lead in the last frame of the game to end up on top.
The first chukker was opened with a classic field goal from Gaston Lisioli to put Lechuza ahead on the scoreboard. However, the lead did not last for long time, as Paco De Narvaez scored a couple of goals of which one came on a penalty shot while the other
was from the field. ERG snuck ahead a narrow one-goal lead at the end of the first set of play.
ERG attacker, Jason Crowder, converted a penalty shot at the start of the second chukker. This was followed by a field goal from De Narvaez and ERG extended the lead to three goals. Toto Collardin of Lechuza scored off a spot shot at the last moments of
the second frame and cut the lead down to two goals. The period ended with ERG holding a two-goal, 4-2 advantage.
The third chukker completely belonged to ERG, as it obtained three goals while holding Lechuza scoreless. The ERG trio including Santi Torres, De Narvaez and Crowder, notched three goals; scoring one from the field and converting another two penalty shots.
ERG was holding a five-goal lead after three periods of play.
The Lechuza revved up its offense in the next period and ran up two goals while holding the ERG attack to only a single goal. The fourth chukker was opened up with a fine field goal from De Narvaez which was responded to with a goal from Lisioli to reduce
the lead to five goals. Another Lechuza goal went up on the scoreboard from Collardin to conclude the fourth chukker with Lechuza trailing 8-4.
Lisioli scored off another spot shot for Lechuza at the start of the next frame. The captain of the ERG foursome responded by converting a long shot to hold a four-goal, 9-5 lead.
Lechuza was desperate to get goals in the final seven-and-half minutes but failed to reduce the lead. Crowder scored his third penalty shot at the start of the final frame to increase the lead to five goals. Victor Vargas marked a goal from the field while
Lisioli notched another couple of penalty shots in the last moments of the game for Lechuza. ERG rode off with a 10-8 victory.
Paco De Narvaez was the leading scorer for ERG, with five impressive goals, while Jason Crowder notched up three goals. Team captain, Scott Wood, and Santi Torres accounted for one goal apiece in the winning effort. From the Lechuza line-up, Gaston Lisioli
contributed three points while his team-mates, Toto Collardin and Victor Vargas added three goals.
With this win, ERG is still in the running for the Ylvisaker Cup. Lucheza is in bad shape at the moment and are 0-2 in the tournament.
