I am going to school for teaching english to speakers of other languages (ESL), but have recently become interested in linguistics from classes I'm taking for my ESL stuff. I'm also interested in anthropology so i was thinking about doing something with linguistic and also sociocultural anthropology. My question is that I want to teach, don't really want to get my masters, but i want to do something with linguistic and sociocultural anthropology, so i'm asking for suggestions of what i should do! Thanks!

  1. Why not teach while pursuing your master's?  You can't do very much with linguistics and/or sociocultural anthropology without an advanced degree.

  2. You will not get a university teaching position without a Ph.D. in anthropology, and anthropology doesn't exist at the High School level. You could teach ESL classes and keep anthro on as a hobby, but you'll never be able to teach it conduct research without a higher degree.
