I have a small class (3) of 7 - 8 year old girls starting next week and am looking for a good course book. There are so many available I am a bit overwhelmed! The girls are Italian and go to a bi-lingual school so are not outright beginners. I also have a one to one class with another girl of the same age who is quite a handful, I have to keep her constantly amused, and could do with a good book for her. Any suggestions?

  1. Are you in a school?  Or are you doing this on your own time outside of school?

Hampton Brown (the publisher) makes my favorite curriculum for elementary aged students.  It's called Avenues.  It looks like a reading curriculum, but there are practice books that go with it and ideas for projects.  I like them because the stories the company has chosen parallel the subjects students often learn in the corresponding grade-level, so not only are they improving reading and building their vocabulary, but they are getting a preview or reinforcing material learned in the mainstream classroom.
