I've been an coffee drinker for quite a while now, and have recently taken a liking to cappuchinos and espresso. we have a coffee maker at our house; nothing special - just a mr.coffee. we have a coffee bean grinder, as we only buy beans. i'd like to get an espresso machine before winter hits, but don't want to spend an arm and a leg for them - i have seen some that sell for thousands! it wouldn't be used very often, and just for one person, do you have any ideas? I'd really appreciate it! :]

  1. check overstock.com, they have great prices, and reviews so you can see which one will be the best for you :) Plan on spending at least $100 to get a decent one, if you get one that's too cheap it will just break down and not be worth the money you had thought you saved in the first place. I got one at target for like 20-50 bucks, it only worked like 2 times, and not even that well... You want a good sturdy one, not one that feels like a kids toy.

  2. First, Mr. Coffee is one of the worst coffeemakers, even for regular coffee.  You could get a Cuisinart coffeemaker, which brews into a thermal pot (and keeps it hot for up to 8 hours).  The difference in the quality of coffee will be remarkable! ...  I have a DeLonghi Magnifica 3300 espresso machine (in addition to my Cuisinart pot) and absolutely LOVE it!  It has a bean reservoir, and grinds them fresh for each cup;   it has a water reservoir and you just push a button to start it!  It has a grind dispenser reservoir, so you don't have to empty it after each cup.  You can adjust the strength and size of the cup, and, of course, it has a frother.  I think they're about $1300-$1600, unless you can find a new (in box) one cheaper on eBay, but they're absolutely worth it! ......There are differences in pump and steam machines too....  I had a cheap Melitta before, but the espresso wasn't nearly as good, and you had to let it cool down between cups;  it didn't grind the beans or store the water; and the frother wasn't very good.  It also didn't make espresso with "crema" on top.....Check out the DeLonghi website to compare the machines, or go to Bed,Bath&Beyond or Linen & Things and have the salesperson explain the differences.......

  3. Well, I have a NESPRESSO and I am super happy with it. Inexpensive, easy to use, clean, coffee tastes wonderful, it´s just great!!
