What do you think of this story? Is this the weirdest EU story yet?

The fighting capability of the Army's new generation of armoured vehicles could be limited by European rules on greenhouse gas emissions.

To avoid breaching the EU rules, the 3,000 vehicles must be specially designed to limit the damage to the environment in the battlefield.

However, critics claim that this could compromise their fighting effectiveness and say protecting British troops should take priority over complying with the regulations.

  1. Yes.  Weird.  War is h**l, isn't it?

  2. DUDE GET A LIFE !!!!!

    why ash such a question?

  3. Just because they run Europe, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are not thick as two short planks.

It occurs to me that Iraq and Afghanistan are not actually in Europe, so the modifications might not be necessary as long as the vehicles are not shipped back home.

I am also wondering why emissions considerations were not designed into the vehicles in the first place.

But then again ... I've heard that military intelligence is a contradition in terms.

Shazzer - Tony Blair was a confirmed Anglican whilst in office. His wife is Catholic (though what that has to do with this question, I don't know)!

  4. Yawn. More Torygraph anti-EU cobblers.

  5. In case you hadn't noticed, there is only one world in which our soldiers can use their new armoured vehicles. I can't see how they will be much use against global warming, particularly if they contribute to it. EU rules are not the problem here - you are.

  6. It depends what your priorities are, there are conflicting aims.

  7. The trick here is the word "could" which appears in the headline.  Of course they would place exemptions for military and police.

  8. it is really going to hurt Britain really bad in both economy and military. I'm American and the EU only hurt us Americans indirectly. We might lose our allies and Europe would be The USSR of the 21st century. So i think you should do what ever you can to stop it.

  9. under nato rules there are exempt
