What power does the EU Parliament have?

  1. Europe is in a development process from a company of nations to united nations. The parliament is in the same process and has only limited power up to now. The aim of UntiedStatesofEurope will be gained within about 15 years.

    The European Parliament is a 785-member body that is directly elected by the citizens of the constituent nations of the European Union. It forms the second house of the European Union's legislature (kind of like the House of Representatives in the U.S. or the House of Commons in the U.K.).

    It has the power to set the European Union's budget, elect the President of the European Commission (which is the executive branch of the EU), and they also have oversight powers similar to that of the U.S. Congress over the actions taking by the EU government.
