  1. I feel you have militaristic ideas. Cannot be EU a peaceful Country does not like to still the oil from weak countries?

  2. EU Superstate will be a disaster, because it will fall in to the hands of the Muslims. But do not worry, the US saved Europe three times during the 1900 and they will save it again.

  3. EU has all chances to succed and play an important role in the world economy, to compete China and other quickly developping countries. EU should only try to avoid making serious mistakes and definately stay distant from USA than everything will be OK!

  4. Remember the old Roman Empire? The European Union IS the newly risen Roman Empire. The stage for the beast is being set up. Keep an eye on Javier Solana!

  5. Yeah, scary.  Just think what the North American Union will be like.  That's scary too.

  6. Easier trade within the block; a serious competitor with the US on the international stage; better education across the block - particularly in languages; better prices for things like insurance, water, electricity and gas.

On the down side, Tony Blair - Mr. Bush's lap dog - as the first president.  But once he leaves and someone with European interests steps up to the job - things will get better.

  7. Ha, ha, ha, ha, oh, deer,do you have a complex or what? Yes, the is Death Star on the horizon and soon it´s coming to get youuuuuu....

  8. the second coming of the USA

  9. As an European, I do have a slightly different view on the question as the views mentioned so far.

    1. First of all it has to be asked where the European Union now is on the way to a "superstate". There are certainly elements of an own European state, mainly the commission, the Parliament and the Euro, but there are still very important elements missing in the construction in order to fulfill the expectations for a state or even a democratic state. Taking a closer look, it becomes clear that the commission is not as powerful as a "normal" government of an sovereign state. the situation of the Parliament is similar as it is not allowed to decide every important decision like the budget. And finally the Euro: Well, it's an European currency but not all the member states of the European Union are members of the Euro-Zone.

    2. Secondly, it has to be asked what is still "missing" in order to create an European state; especially when you want to create a democratic state. Dividing politics into legislature, executive and judiciary, it becomes mainly clear that there is no sovereign executive power of the European Union it self. The members states do of course have such a power and might let them work in the interests of the European Union but the EU could not control this powers sovereign. Regarding the legislature, there are two points to make: (1) the commission fulfills a lot of the legislature work which does not fulfill democratic standards but, leaving that aside, the legislative decisions of the commission are not always obligatory. But that varies among the different fields of politics. Only the judiciary might be regarded as comparable to "normal" national ones.

Another important perspective in the question of the sovereignty of a state is also the geographical entity of the members states. Meaning that not all the European Union's citizen could move equally freely to the other member states. This is caused in the fact that not all the member states are allowed to sign the Schengen Agreement or do not want to sign it.

    3. Lastly, there is the question what role such a European state should/could play in international politics.

Giving the fact that the European integration is a process of progression since the last 50 years, there will be some point in time when the EU is more or less completely comparable with a "normal" state.

As a person who is interested in politics, would prefer when there is another power next to the USA. This is definitely not meant in any way of opposition or even aggression. I think basically European and US-Americans are on the same side and we appreciate the same things but that does not imply that the other always does what the other want without questioning the objectives. Especially, economically both sides could profit by the fact that the world economy would not have just one engine.
