EURO PRO 6131 Sewing Machine not maintaining...

I have a EUROPRO 6131 Sewing Machine it was sewing fine, then it stopped picking up the bobbin thread. I then oiled it and cleaned it (it was full of wool fibers) and rethreaded it several times, put in new needles, different size needles etc. and it starts out and usually makes a couple of stitches and then the tread is just a straight line on either side of the fabric. The needle is inserted right. The bobbin is installed right, but after a couple of stitches usually about exactly 6 stitches at best the upper and lower thread is not hooked together, running on the settings that use to sew just dandy? Can you please suggest what I might do? Is it a timing issue? The machine was rather dirty with heavy wool (18.5 oz) and before this happened I was having a problem with feed with heavy seams, where the needle was sewing in one place for too long and kinda growing a beard under the needle plate that snagged the material in place, and stopping it, so that I had to cut the beard off and start anew to start sewing again, but now it won't make too many secure stitchs no matter what the material thickess or overlap, usually about exactly 6 stitches good stitches and that's it.
