Question:

EVP Book.....?

Over this past year I've been devoting my free time & apart of my life to EVP. My laptop is filled with a large amount of audacity files from my deceased dad to my grandpa. I had this idea of publishing a book about it. My 2 local public libraries had no paranormal section/books.

1. How would I start the book

2. Would people read/buy it, etc.

  1. Well, if you are writing a book on EVPs you should probably include an audio CD of the EVPs, right?

How interesting would it be to just read the EVPs.

  2. Start the book by backing up the assertion it is your dad. Will people read the book?I have to say, probably not.Only because you will have trouble finding a publisher.Unless you have extraordinary proof or someone famous in your corner. It will never see the light of day.Believe it or not,I do wish you success.I think most successful Authors in this field, are knowingly dishonest.

edit.I look forward to reading your book.Let us all know when we can buy it.

  3. I have no doubt that were it well written people would buy it.

EVPs are the most problematic element of the major paranormal subjects I can think of.  Were you to write a book, here are some questions you may need to address:

What is and what causes an EVP?  What data do you have to support your conclusion?

How are EVPs documented?  Why is it they are in the normal range of human hearing only after they have been recorded on an electronic device?

What is it that allows spirits--which have no voice boxes--to make sounds that can be heard by anything at all?

Are spirits--if that is the source of EVPs--interacting with humans?  If so, why are they not audible to humans, except with special devices?  If so, why are they not making themselves clear?  If so, why do they speak cryptically, inaudibly and without saying anything of substance.  In other words, why can't they carry on a conversation or communicate something meaningful?

Finally, are there any other possible explanations for what many consider to be EVPs (i.e. auditory pareidolia)?

Once you have answered those questions satisfactorily then you'll have the beginnings of a book.

  4. I would start the book with your own personal story about what motivated you to look into and try EVPs. I think many authors (except autobiographies) fail to communicate their human side and who they are as people. Of course that's just my bias.

I would look for similar books on Amazon.com so you avoid reinventing the wheel (repeating too much previous information) and perhaps get some ideas concerning what others have said.

You may already have it but I have included a link for you below.

I would also include a do this yourself section with instructions for various methods that people could attempt.

I would even include a section on what skeptics (not debunkers) have to say about EVPs. You can tell the difference by the suggestions they have to improve your experiments (debunkers will just say that they are worthless and evidence of nothing) and you might even attempt to experiment with some of the suggestions.

As scientific evidence they could use some serious improvements but the idea may be worth exploring and it certainly sounds like they have made difference in your personal life and I would share that aspect in your book.

I think people would buy and read it.

Good luck on your way to the best sellers list ;)

  5. You could also have a CD  come with the book with some EVP's and software for PC and Mac.  Go with the history, a lot about equipment and how to use it,  your best set up,  best use of the different softwares, stories from others.....

Your right on, I have found it hard to sift out the BS and find good answers about EVP work.
