My mother dreamed that my 1yr old nephew had extra teeth and a thumb growing under his tongue? Can anyone help interpret this dream?

  1. Given the youngster's state of development at this point the dream seems to relate to her sense of how he will mature as he grows and what capabilities he may ultimately have in life.

Teeth are a common dream item - but ususally involve our own and a loss or injury that actually stems from a sense of loss of something, typcially appearance, vitality or overall attractiveness.  In this case it is a bit more difficult to say - observing such a thing in an infant is not so common.  Much depends on what your mother may feel of this on reflection, but perhaps she should consider whether she feels this child will have some extraordinary powers of accomplishment in some particular area.  Is he a fast learner who develops quickly at some particular thing such as manual dexterity or speech?  Little ones at this age are fascinating - they develop and grow so quickly - and each is very much an individual and finds his or her own pace.

If I had to guess, the extra teeth may relate nearly literally to something of that which is orally oriented - be it a fancier of a variety of foods (as a fast developer in 'demanding' more than the ordinary baby fare - some are) or something of a vocal nature.  Perhaps he is ahead of the curve in speech or dietary interest.

The thumb is the joker in this deck - mainly for being under his tongue.  That nearly spoils my thoughts of vocal development, almost as 'all thumbs'.  Can it be that she sees his manual skills as a bit clumsy so far, perhaps a bit behind the curve?  That doesn't mean 'abnormal' - again, each is an individual, will have differing abilities and 'schedules' by which to develop them.

I would almost then be tempted to say somehow she sees the child as one of appetite but of little manual dexterity - so far.  That may be unfair to the child - my observation, that is.  Keep a bit of humor in the thing - we're speaking of a little one who is very much at that cute 'puppy stage' where so much rapid development happens.

The answer may lie in that we get all kinds of odd impressions of babies - they're 'top heavy' and wobble as they start to stand and cruise while holding onto things.  They're clumsy eaters for some time as bottle becomes supplemented by spoon and bowl.  Their verbal skills come behind mental observationa and expression - they 'talk' alright - and consider that they learn 'our' language far faster than we tend to 'learn theirs'.  In this variety of impressions, our hopes and concerns for them and all the attending emotions, many random dreams with odd symbology are possible.

Such impressions are also very likely transient in nature - mainly because babies change so fast.  Last week's impressions fade as a new skill is learned or a developing one suddenly blossoms as the 'code' is cracked by the kid.

Given all this - I suspect your mother's dream is then a venting of some subconscious accumulation impressions and attempted 'readings' of where the baby is headed in development and life.  It would mean she loves and cares for him - to the point of taking in much detail.  Perhaps if she considers these things some of this will make sense and help her see the meaning clearly for herself.

One can become quite Freudian in these things or just realize that we often just vent oddities as I've mentioned.  I favor the latter thought.

All the best to you, your caring mother and your little nephew - who I'm certain is and will be quite a fine boy.  Enjoy watching him grow.

  2. Maybe she fears of losing her own teeth in dreams and she thinks this nephew may have a hard life and needs those extra teeth and she is perhaps helping him in a way?

  3. I myself have often wonder what dreams mean and I found an excellent site which I am including, good luck.
