  1. Did you ask the septic cleaner? Rid-X is a waste of money.  We had a septic system for years, and the people who pumped it said it's a great way for the Rid-X people to sell natural enzymes.

  2. the bacteria in rid-x causes the smell i use a different brand (roebic) and it smells the same

  3. The rotten egg smell is sulfur pockets in your well. The best way to "Try" to take care of it is to take the magnesium rod out of your hot water heater. This may help some but you will still get the smell if you have large pockets of sulfuric gas in your well.

  4. I had the same problem with the smell I put in a water softener in and it helps with the egg smell they cost about $400.00 @ sears. They aren't that hard to install. As for the rid-x I'm not sure I use finely diced green cabbage for my septic it creates the bactria fast that breaks down the stuff in the tank and is natural.

  5. That rotten egg smell is sulfur. I'm assuming you have well water, well water always smells of rotten eggs. If you have a good filtration system, you wouldn't notice it anywhere else in the house.

Or Rid-X may have sulfur in it. But I've lived in places and had relatives that had wells, and there was always the smell of sulfur (rotten eggs)

  6. The “smell” that you smell comes from the breakdown of organic matter by anaerobic (without oxygen) bacteria.

There are a number of gases produced by the anaerobic bacteria in your septic tank as they breakdown organic matter and they are also common in landfills (along with many others). The three main gases are:

Hydrogen sulfide which is the rotten egg smell.

    Methane and Carbon Dioxide.

There is nothing you can do about it unless you want to pump oxygen into the septic tank to make the bacteria aerobic – which would not release an objectionable odor.

Many of the gases produced by anaerobic bacteria are odorless or in small enough concentrations to not be offensive. But hydrogen sulfide is objectionable at very low concentrations.
