Each year at harvest time, the workers pick the tomatoes in August and September. If twice as many workers are hired this year, how long will it take to pick all the tomatoes?

  1. Half as long as last year, provided they work at the same rate and do not interfere with each other. This is using a clear-cut method, that is the workers make one pass through the gardens and pick all the tomatoes at one time, and destroy the plants afterward. If, however, they make more than one pass, and wait until more tomatoes ripen, it could take the same amount of time  as it did last year. There is not enough information in this question to make a definite  answer.
