Eagles GM Howie Roseman: We want LeSean McCoy in Philadelphia for a long time – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles’ general manager, Howie Roseman, has said that the team management wants running back, LeSean McCoy, whose rookie contract will expire after next season, to me a member of team for a long period of time.
McCoy, 23, started his professional National Football League (NFL) career with Eagles in 2009.
In his rookie season, McCoy only started four games while playing 16 in which he recorded a total of 637 rushing yards on 155 attempts. He also scored four touchdowns.
In his second season with the team, McCoy started 13 games while playing 15 in which he rushed for 1,080 yards on 207 carries while scoring seven touchdowns.
In the last NFL season, he recorded his career-best statistics. He played and started 15 games in which he rushed for a total of 1,309 yards on 273 carries while scoring 17 touchdowns.
Interestingly, Eagles’ head coach, Andy Reid, recently said that he wanted to get some load off McCoy in the last season and give more playing time to running back, Dion Lewis, but the coach did not say anything about McCoy’s future with the team in terms
of his contract.
Reid was of view that the player’s workload should be decreased and that’s why he wanted to give more playing time to other players.
While speaking during a Pro Football Talk's afternoon show PFT Live,
Eagles’ GM said that the player should not worry about the coach’s statement.
He said:
"I think there's always an effort to try to do that and get other people some touches so LeSean can play at the highest level this year and going forward.”
At the same time, Roseman added:
“Obviously LeSean's a great player and he's going to get a fair amount of touches this year. I don't think he's going to have to worry about wondering if he's going to get the ball enough."
When asked about the contract situation of McCoy, Roseman said that the team management wants the player to stay an Eagle for a long period of time.
He said:
“He's is a heck of a player. We want him in Philadelphia for a long time. We haven't been shy about that.”
