Eagles’ coach Andy Reid still prefers Michael Vick for starting quarterback position – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid still thinks that Michael Vick is a much better quarterback for his side and said on Monday that the player would join the team’s starting line-up as soon as he recovers from injury.
Vick got his ribs broken in the week 10 game against Arizona Cardinals. Following the injury, he did not take part in the last week’s practice sessions and eventually sat out of the week 11 encounter against New York Giants.
It is so far unclear as to when Vick will recover, but the coach has complete confidence in the player and he maintains that Vick will be the starter whenever he feels fit to play. He further said that the management is going to
monitor Vick's daily progress and then make any decision about his participation in the future games.
"Michael is a little better," Reid said. "Again, we'll take that day by day and see how he does."
Vick joined Eagles in the year 2009 after playing for Atlanta Falcons where he started his professional career. He has played nine games this season and has 11 interceptions and 11 touchdowns.
In the game against Giants, Vick was replaced by Vince Young, who was signed for a one-year contract by Eagles in 2011. This season, he has played three games and managed two touchdowns, four interceptions and 258 yards.
His performance against Giants was splendid and he proved his selection by leading his team to a victory 17-10. He intercepted three passes, recorded two passing touchdowns and made 36 attempts for 23 successful passes for 258
yards at the MetLife Stadium.
The coach was also satisfied with Young’s performance. He was of the view that it was a tough job to replace Vick and said that Young did well when given a chance.
"Vince, stepping in for the great Michael Vick, that's a tough thing to do and he did it and the guys rallied around him," the coach said. "The offensive line and defensive line played well, the offensive line had a huge challenge
when it counted and they were able to put some things together."
Eagles have four games this season and have lost six. With an average of 415.5 yards (247.5 passing yards, 168.0 rushing yards) per game, they are ranked third in the National Football Conference East division.
