Eagles’ cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha doubtful against Patriots – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles’ cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha has raised doubts on his participation in the week 12 encounter of the National Football League current season against New England Patriots after hurting his left knee during the
practice session on Thursday.
Although there were speculations that the injury was not very severe and Asomugha might recover from it before the Sunday game, the Eagles’ management refrained from giving any official word and the team spokesman said that the
update about his the injury would be given on Friday.
Asomugha, 30, was selected by Oakland Raiders in the 2003 NFL Draft. He played for the franchise for a long time and joined Eagles in the year 2011. This season, he started all the 10 games and recording 24 tackles and three interceptions.
Eagles’ cornerback Brandon Hughes empathised with the situation and hoped that Asomugha would recover soon.
"It's a short-lived career, and to see a guy go down, you just hope it's not as severe as what you saw initially. That's what we're hoping," he said.
If Asomugha is unable to recover, the loss will be huge, but Eagles have a backup plan. As safety Kurt Coleman puts it, "We've got to stick to the game plan. Nnamdi's definitely a big piece of what we do on defence, but we have
guys we can rotate in, guys who can do similar things. Everybody has to step up their game if he can't go. Everybody has to pick up the slack."
Meanwhile, Patriots’ coach Bill Belichick is willing to wait and see who will make it to the final line-up for his opponents and said that Eagles have a lot of depth in their line-up and there are many players who could replace
others.
Eagles defeated New York Giants in the week 11 encounter and are ranked third in the National Football Conference East division.
On the other hand, their opponents, New England Patriots, are leading the American Football Conference East division with seven victories and three defeats to their credit and have a strong chance to make it to the playoffs.
Eagles are going to host Patriots at the Lincoln Financial Filed. The teams have a winning streak of one and two games respectively.
