Eagles’ defence cautious against Cowboys’ offense – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles are not getting complacent. Not even after Dallas Cowboys Owner/General Manager Jerry Jones said that he was scared of them. The defence knows that Cowboys offence is capable of giving a tough time and players in the Eagles’ locker room unanimously opined on Wednesday that they are not going to take them lightly on Saturday.
The Cowboys’ offense is led by quarterback Tony Romo. In 14 games this season, he has completed 317 passes of 483 attempts for 3,895 yards. He has thrown 29 touchdown passes and nine interceptions. He is carrying a quarterback rating of 102.6.
Earlier in the current season, the Eagles defeated the Cowboys, which was why Jerry Jones said that he was scared of the Eagles. However, when these sides met, Cowboys’ running back Felix Jones was out owing to an injury.
Felix marked his impressive return to the side and recorded respectively more than 100 yards in his last two games. He can prove to be a threat for the Eagles.
While playing 10 games this season, Felix has started six, where he rushed for 521 yards on 112 attempts. Eagles’ linebacker Jamar Chaney, who has played against Jones during their college days, is aware of the difference Jones can create.
“He's just a great back. The thing that's surprising about him is how fast and quick he is. He's not only fast, but he has pretty good acceleration, he can get top speed pretty fast,” he said.
During Jones absence, DeMarco Murray replaced him. Now Murray is out of the season due to an ankle injury and Jones has taken his position back. Eagles’ linebacker Brian Rolle thinks that the experience Jones has got can trouble the Eagles.
"When he hits the seam, he can go home," said Rolle. "He's not a big power guy. Murray's a bigger back but Felix knows the offense a little more, he's been in it a lot longer. He's a home run threat every time he touches the ball."
However, Jones did not practise on two straight days on Tuesday and Wednesday and his participation in the Christmas Eve’s game is doubtful. Sammy Morris will start the game if Jones fails to attend the other practice sessions.
The other threat for the Eagles is Cowboys’ tight end Jason Witten, who receives passes from Romo. Witten has 68 receptions for 849 yards in 14 games this season.
"He's not real fast, but he somehow gets open almost every play," Rolle said about Witten.
The Cowboys are leading the National Football Conference East division. By defeating the Eagles, they will have a very strong chance of reaching the playoffs.
