Eagles’ running back LeSean McCoy wants to be the league’s leading rusher – NFL News
Everything is going against the wish of the ‘Dream Team’, Philadelphia Eagles, which has lost eight games this season. Their chances of entering the playoffs are blurred, but they could find a reason to cherish at the end of the
season.
Eagles’ running back LeSean McCoy is chasing the National Football League rushing title. Besides, the title, he also has an opportunity to beat the franchise’s leading rusher, Steve Van Buren, who rushed for 1,146 yards in the
year 1949.
McCoy currently has 1,134 yards this season in 12 games. Eagles have four more games left in the regular season, which means that McCoy has more than enough chance to beat Steve.
Currently, he is ranked second in this season’s top rusher’s list, which is dominated by Maurice Jones-Drew of Jacksonville Jaguars with 1,137 yards.
LeSean has give credit of his achievement to all the players who have played with him and said that it is a result of team work.
“It's big. When you're competing with other guys around the league, you look forward to competing,” he said. “The offensive line has a lot to do with it. It's not always a me-me-me thing or individual-type of accomplishment.”
The 23-year-old running back was drafted by Eagles in the 2009 NFL Draft. In his first season, he started four of the 16 games he played. In his second season, he got the trust of the coach and started 13 out of 15 games. This
season, he has started all the games so far and is expected to play as a starter in rest of the games as well.
LeSean is happy at the way his career has progressed and thinks that it would be an honour for him to achieve the title of leading rusher. However, he said that he is not focusing on the title at the moment. He wants his team to
win rest of the games and attempt to gain entry into the playoffs.
"It would be a great honour if I could lead the league in rushing," he said. "But it's only at the end of the year that I would find joy in that. In the moment, I don't care. I care about making the playoffs.”
