Eagles sweep NJIT at Seton Hall Invitational tournament - Volleyball
The Boston College women’s volleyball team had a match with the New Jersey Institute of Technology as part of the Seton Hall Invitational tournament that took place over the weekend. By the time that the day was done, the Eagles were celebrating their clean
sweep over NJIT.
Not only did the Eagles win the match in three back to back sets, they did so by bagging each set with a comfortable margin. By the time the day was done, the score board was showing the following final set scores: 25-17, 25-16, and 25-15.
The head coach for the Eagles, Chris Campbell, made the following comments after his team had won the match: "We're starting to form an identity. We're still very young and trying to learn a new system, but this weekend's performance was encouraging for
us."
The player that was able to lead the Eagles in terms of points was Courtney Castle, a freshman. Courtney kept the pressure on NJIT by registering a total of nine kills, five digs, four blocks as well as four aces. Courtney was helped by her team-mate Kellie
Barnum, also a freshman by registering a total of seven points for the Eagles in addition to making 12 assists.
Regarding the upcoming conference matches that the Eagles have lined up, Campbell made the following statements: "The ACC is strong and getting stronger. Every single team is better than they were last year. There's no easy matches, but with Courtney coming
back strongly this weekend and finishing the tournament with a victory, I think we're starting to figure out who we are as a team."
The first set of the match started off with both the teams almost level with each other but after the two sides came back after the first technical time out, the Eagles found themselves soaring high and NJIT having trouble to match the pace of their opponents.
As a result, the Eagles were able to bag the opening set of the match at 25-17.
The Eagles started off the second set forcefully and were able to take the lead early on. Once they had the lead, the Eagles did not have a hard time in staying in control of the game as NJIT kept trailing behind all through. Before long, the Eagles had
secured another easy win at 25-16.
The third set went the same way as its predecessor and the Eagles written on it all the way to the end at 25-15.
As a team, the Eagles have been able to bag themselves a total of four wins in comparison with seven losses so far. The next match that the Eagles will be playing is scheduled to take place on Tuesday and the team that the Eagles will find themselves up
against is Maryland.
