Eagles’ wide receiver DeSean Jackson wants to be with the team next year – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles’ rookie wide receiver DeSean Jackson on Monday expressed a desire to stay with the franchise for more time saying that he wants to return to the side next year after expiration of his rookie contract.
“That's where I'm at and this is what I love to do, play football, regardless of what the case may be," he said.
Jackson was selected by Eagles in the 2008 National Football League Draft. This is his fourth season. In his professional career, he has recorded 19 touchdowns and managed 210 receives for 3,788 yards maintaining an average of
18.0 yards per carry.
His recent performance has not been very impressive, which might force the team management to think twice before selecting him again.
He also faced disciplinary issue this season when he failed to show up in a team meeting. Eventually, he served a punishment by watching the next game from sidelines. He had apologised for the mistake and accepted penalty.
During the last week lost against the American Football Conference East leaders, New England Patriots, he displayed sub-standard game-play, forcing head coach Andy Reid to bench him in the second half of the game.
He was unable to properly collect passes in that game. He only managed four receives for 73 yards. Adding to that, he also dropped two touchdown passes that badly hurt his team.
He too was disappointed by his performance and admitted that he did not play well. However, he vowed to deliver much better performance in the next games and said that he has the ability to play better.
"Things happen sometimes," he said. "As a player, honestly, you're upset when you drop passes like I did tonight. Sometimes you have a bad game, and tonight definitely wasn't my best game. There were a couple of plays I thought
I should have made, but didn't. I know I'm a better receiver than that."
Eagles are going to take on Seattle Seahawks in the week 13 game of the season on Thursday. Although the chances for Eagles to make it to the playoffs are now almost zero, Jackson said that the players are focused and they will
deliver their best in the next games.
