Eamon O’Carroll makes his comeback to Wigan Warriors after fifteen months
Eamon O’Carroll of the Wigan Warriors will be part of the clash on Friday against the Bradford Bulls which is their last game before the Challenge Cup final. He had to face omission from the rugby scenario for fifteen months, on account of sternum injury
which had coupled with broken foot bones.
He had only appeared for his team twice in 2010, when he was made to sit outside the field for fifteen more months, due to the career jeopardising sternum injury.
While speaking about the return of the Wigan’s prop, Warrior's coach, Michael Maguire stated, “Everyone at the club is delighted to see Eamon back. He has had an extremely tough last 14 months with his injury but his never-say-die attitude to training and
rehabilitation has been a shining example.”
Maguire acknowledged the tough recovery, O’Carroll had to make over the past fifteen months and appreciated his determination throughout his recovery time out.
Despite his long absence from rugby, O’Carroll proved his form in the two Under-20s outfits which is definitely a big leap as he was out of practise for such a long time.
Wigans’ coach further added about the level of determination shown by his prop who is going to play his first team-game after May 2010, that he is exerting alot to make his way back into the game.
He stated, “He’s only walking out of here at six or seven at night, and he’s not stopped once during the day. He’s worked extremely hard and he’s performed very well in the U20s, and hopefully we’ll see a fair bit of him over the next few weeks.”
O’Carroll’s inclusion in the squad for the Friday night’s game is not only because his never-ending hope to return to his outfit but also due to the places left vacant due to the injury toll experienced by Wigans.
In the previous Sunday’s clash against the Salford Tigers, Wigan had lost Ben Cross from their future line-ups, as he left the 52-18 encounter over Tigers with a broken arm.
The coach has already sidelined three players, including; Brett Finch, Lee Mossop and Andy Coley until the final showdown of the Carnegie Challenge Cup 2011, in Wembley, on August 27.
With those three players rested; Paul Deacon and Jeff Lima will return to action against Bulls.
However, O’Carroll’s return to the game was delayed further as the search for the qualified surgeon to undergo his surgical procedure was coming to an end.
Macguire has named his19-man squad for their clash against Bulls on August 17, which will grant O’Carroll to add to the 61 caps he has collected since his debut in 2006.
