I have just started sharing a horse and he has a white crusty ear fungus thing in his ear. The person we are loaning him from said he has had it for a while and you can't do anything about it.

Are there any any remedys or anything that i could use on the fungus to make it go?

Thank you.

  1. A wash cloth dipped in a warm solution of bleach and water.  (10 parts water, 1 part bleach.)  WRING it out, no dripping.  Wipe the ear clean, inside and out.  Rinse, wring, repeat as required to get the ear clean.  Towel dry as much as you are able and allow it to finish drying.

Apply a topical product like Fungisan to affected parts as label directes.

  2. getting the vet out sounds like the best option.

don't just go sticking things or any old remedies in his/her ear.

you could just make it a whole lot worse.

but have you tried washing his/her ear properly ?

not by pouring water into it,

but using sponges dipped in water ?

but i'd say call the vet. :)

  3. I have the SAME thing with my horse and told the vet about it. I wouldn't call the vet over something like this unless you have tried every solution. My vet charges too much just for her to peek in her ears. Try rubbing it everyday and using a clean cloth or sponge. Sometimes just using your finger to rub very hard works..unless you have a head shy horse. My equine dentist (not the vet I use) told me to use SWAT.. and said it worked very well on his horse. I have not had the time to do itbut if I were you I'd do it immediatel...ant let me know how it wks out!!!! Good luck!
