Ear/Tonsil problem: Could this be a brain tumor?

Started about a month ago, had severe tonsillitis, white patches on tonsils etc. I went to the doctor and was prescribed a weeks Penicillin. Popped a puss patch on my left tonsil, around that time I have had a weird noise in my left ear when I lay on my left side and when I'm breathing. After the weeks prescription was up, few days after that, I went back again. This time the doctor checked my ears, throat, etc. Said my ears looked okay and very clean. (Used one of those things that they stick in and look through). He said I probably have an infection and gave me 2 weeks of Penicillin. I have two days left on Penicillin now, and I am going back to the doctor on the 27th.

My ear makes a noise when I breathe in and lay on my left side. It almost sounds as though I am breathing through my ear. It doesn't hurt, it's just annoying. Also, when I move my head left or right I hear a weird clicking that sounds like my tonsil or something are sticking to my throat. They dont look very swollen, just a little red. The ear thing has gone down alot since I've been on Penicillin and used ear drops, but it hasn't completely gone. The clicking thing when I move my head is almost certainly coming from my throat/neck area, possibly somewhere below the ear. It sounds like it's coming from right under my ear sometimes. I was wondering if my middle ear could be blocked after having tonsillitis and infections and stuff and that could be the clicking. It sounds like it could be mucus trapped.

But I was just wondering if it could be something more serious? I've had no unusual symptoms. I feel like blacking out a little when I stand up fast, but rarely and I've had that really since I became a Vegetarian and I've always blamed that on lack of Iron, it only happens when I'm not taking Iron tablets.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

  1. It's very common for your ears to be this way after an throat infection.  Even some colds will cause the ears to be like this.  Even after your infection is gone, the ear thing can go on for months.   You are right about the tonsilitis, it probably caused swelling and blocked your Eustation tubes.  The ear noise all comes with this and is not abnormal.

If you have doubts then go back to the doctor and ask him some questions.  At age 15, this standing ujp fast and feeling like your going to black out is probably normal.  I know I had it at that age.  And with your ear problem, being a little off balance could also be normal.  You will be better in a few weeks, maybe a month for those sounds to go away.

You might want to get a blood test to see if you're anemic.  Or read up and include iron rich foods in your diet.   Also, don't take too many Iron tablets especially if you're a male.

Although supplemental  Vitamin B12 might be in order.

There is some speculation than too much iron can cause you to have more infections.  Get your blood test and be sure you tell the doctor you are vegetarian.
