Question:

Ear syringing reservations?

I have partial deafness because of earwax and the doctor wants the nurse to syringe my ears.

When I was young the doctor told my mother that my ear canal was narrower than average and I am worried about complications such as ear perforation if I go ahead and have it done. I have been using sodium bicarbonate ear drops for about 3 days but my hearing has got worse.

The doctor says I should use them right up to the day I have my ear's syringed.

If I postpone the procedure until a later date but continue to use the drops, would this be acceptable ?

  1. My ear canal is narrow. I have had my ears syringed numerous times with no problems.

I'm now 51 and have good hearing..........after wax removal!

  2. yes you can phone and change the appointment.. i used ear drops for 10 days before getting my ears syringed

  3. I used almond oil for five days and then had my ears syringed. Apparently, the longer that you are able to soften the wax, the better. I was totally bricking it as I had no idea what to expect. There is around thirty seconds of noise followed by the most amazing feeling that you can hear again!! I didn't realise how bad my hearing had become until I had my ears syringed.  It's like a new life, I would highly recommend it, wish I had done it years ago!!!! Don't leave it too long, a week is sufficient to soften the wax, any longer and you will end up with your ears blocked with all the stuff you are putting into them.

  4. Your best bet is to get Cerumol ear drops(I believe they contain a little turps!) and use them every night for a week.

This will soften the wax and in some cases it will disappear altogether (via eustachian tubes)

It is always a good idea to put some petroleum jelly(vaseline)in the palm of your hand and roll a small piece of cotton-wool in it to make a proofed ear-plug thus preventing the absorbtion of the oil into the cotton-wool,and providing maximum benefit.

It always worked on my patients!
