Early 1960's climate?

Question

Here in St Louis many of the coldest days on record for the entire year are held by 1961 1962 1963.

I know this since I listen to the record temps given every day by NOAA.

What happened during this period?

Volcano maybe?

Just curious how one year can be SO cold.

By the way you can spare me any man made global warming propaganda....I've already heard it.

Too many man-made Carbon Emissions and Al Gore's dad was running around proclaiming the world would end because of Global Cooling.
