I am trying to figure out what I want to major in. This major seems perfect to me. I would like more info on it. If you have majored in ECE then please tell me what you do, what you learn, where it is best to get the degree, etc. Anything that you think will help me.

  1. I have been working with young children for 17 years.  With my ECE degree, I have been a Pre-K teacher, a school age teacher, a Director of a preschool, a state licensing inspector who regulated child care programs, taught at the local community college, and I now own my own business working with and training teachers and Directors.   Good luck we need more educators!

  2. ECE is a very rewarding career, if you have lots and lots of patience for little ones. I have been teaching K for 10 years and love it. Search around for colleges in your area that have ECE programs. Also, you might want to get your feet wet by working part time at a preschool or daycare center.

  3. I have worked my whole life in early childhood education. It is a rewarding field for someone who enjoys helping children and families. It does not pay very well. In college you will take child development, curriculum and education courses. You will learn the developmental stages of children, how they learn and grow. You will also learn how all area the content areas - literature, math, science, music and art, health, and even social studies begin in ECE. being a preschool teacher is a very diverse job - you are a teacher, a nurse, a social worker, a referee, a caretaker and much more. Many colleges offer ECE - check your area colleges. I don't know where you live. Good Luck!!!
