Question:

Early Childhood/ Social Work?

I am currently working in Early Childhood Education, making an hourly wage.

I am also currently in college working on an associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, but recently realized that an associates in Social Work as well will only require taking a few extra classes.

So here are my questions:

Is it really that easy to get a second associates degree by just taking a few extra classes? (I havent talked to my advisor yet, and I'm definitely going to, its just Saturday and I want to know what Y!A has to say.)

What kind of salary do you think I could expect with these 2 associates degrees? ~ I mean I do realize that they are not Bachelor's degrees. What do YOU think?

After I complete my associates degree in Early Childhood Education, I will continue on to get my Bachelor's. I am a single mother with 2 small children. I have to work while I go to school so I am getting what I can get done as I go. I want to know the best way to use both associates degrees for now.

  1. to be honest with you i am a Social Work  with the state and you only make min wague with them so if you plan to work for them you need to check into it first  my best frined  has her ba and she only make 1.00 more than me..hope this helps

  2. Truth be told there really is not such think as an associate's degree in social work.  The minimum professional degree for social work is a BSW.  If your CC is offering an AA in social work it is really a pre-professional degree and does not really qualify you to do anything - except for go on for your BSW.   An AA would only qualify you for para-professional positions (in reality you could get the job without the degree - if you had experience.

I suspect you could easily transfer into a BSW program with your early childhood AA - this would be a much better use of your time and would dramatically increase your options and earning potential.  Every BSW I know makes more than $10 an hour.
