  1. I was a an early childhood teacher for over 20 years, and it is my favorite level of teaching.  You not only have children who, for the most part, respect, if not love you.  You get to use your imagination more to create interesting and engaging learning activities.  I think some of the others who have answered have given you sound advice in terms of learning about child development in high school if you can.  You can also work in a church school program, like Sunday school, or a volunteer program in your community.  Baby sitting, as one writer said, is a good way to learn about how you are with young children.

It takes patience, but firmness, and lots of energy.   If you like to sing and play games as well as teach others, you'll find your niche.

Good luck to you!  We need good early childhood teachers!

  2. Where I live you need to take certain classes approved by the state.  One thing you can do is go on-line and see what are the requirements to become a preschool teacher where you live.

    Good Luck!!!

  3. you go to college to be a teacher

  4. Talk to your guidance counselor at school and see if you can take the babysitter's course that teaches a little about human development and first aid plus CPR.

If you want to teach then you must take the basic classes in English, Math, Science, Social Studies and Health. If you are a good student that helps. Taking a language might be good, too.

The Human Lifecyle is the main thing that a Preschool teacher has to understand. There are levels of development that can and cannot be expected of preschool age students.

I am afraid that the pay is not great. For some reason we as a society don't value our teachers. With so many budgetary cuts there are teachers being laid off. Can you imagine? One of the most important jobs in the world  may be taking care of our youth, but the budget axe falls there. (Probably because the people taking care of children are so busy doing just that.)

  5. I'm a teacher and You are going to be poor if you go into this field.

For a single teacher to afford a house, car and essentials it's very difficult chose carefully

  6. well take a job that is surrounded with children, see if it suits you, you may change your mind. Psychology would be a great class because it would allow you to get an insight on what kids are feeling, it's a tough situation.

  7. Well my sister is an early childhood teacher. In high school she took regular classes and ones like "child development." See whats offered at your school. Oh and i would also reccomend co-op if its offered.
