  1. The hunting and gathering way of life had a lot of advantages.  They had the freedom to move around as they wished to find the best food available.  As long as the population remained small enough there was no real need for adopting agriculture practices.  This is the main reason some groups of people took longer to develop agriculture.  As populations increased the agriculture way of life became necessary.  There was not enough game and browsing to support the people.  They raised crops and livestock, built permanent housing and became farmers.  There is not really any cultures that don't have at least some agriculture.  There nomadic people that keep on the move without permanent housing, but they keep large herds of livestock, and do not rely on hunting for their food.  They have developed a different type of agriculture, but it is agriculture.

  2. The spread and influence was mainly driven by adaptations made by man. human beings were mainly hunters who migrated with the herds as they followed the rain. after years of hunting they realized that some sections received rain more frequently than others so some settled and adapted to crop farming as they waited for hunting season when the prey migrated again

Farming was also embraced due to trade some tribe adapted farming to attain tender

other cultures did not embrace crop farming because

Other forms of food were available example fishing tribes

Others did not form farming because of the climates did not allow eg the dessert enclosed cultures like the khoi Khoi and Khoi San of the Kalahari

other believed that farming was a blasphemy and it was gods work to create so much so like today's out look on genetics

Others never had to grow anything because of ample vegetation cover that provided enough food eg the early Amazonian cultures
