Early odds favour Tiger Woods and Zach Johnson
Once again, Tiger Woods is being tipped as a favourite by the punters to win the 2012 World Challenge. This does not come as surprise, if we look at Tiger’s track record in this event and the fact that Tiger Woods Foundation hosts this event.
Being a host, obviously, he will always put in his best in such an event. Woods is not only the defending champion but he is also a five-time winner of the event. This shows the way he has performed in this particular event throughout his career.
The former world number one will be seeking the fourth title of the year and the sixth World Challenge title when he takes to the field later this week.
It was this very tournament last year after which Tiger Woods finally returned to winning ways. His victory at the 2011 World Challenge can be said as one of the turning points in his career.
Following this victory, the fourteen-time major winner went on to win three titles this year with victories at Bay Hill, Memorial and Congressional Golf and Country Club.
After Woods’ off season outing in Malaysia, he has been out of the game to take some rest. After 2005, it has happened that Tiger Woods competed in a full season, that too, a successful one.
It is no surprise that everybody is eyeing a Tiger’s victory at the 2012 World Challenge. Former top tanked player would also be hoping finish off this season in style by capturing his World Challenge title.
Another player who is leading in the odds is Zach Johnson. Zach nearly won this title last year, until Tiger showed his true class at the depth of the final round.
Johnson is a sound player, who knows his limitations and plays to his strength. Once again, he is one of the pre-tournament favourites.
The American himself had a decent year on the PGA Tour. He won titles, finished runner-up in some and overall, he has been performing consistently this year, missing just one cut.
The world number 22 will surely try to bag in his third title of the season by winning the 2012 World Challenge presented by Northwestern Mutual.
