Why is metabolism so important in the early periods of plant growth?

From what i know, it provides the molecules and energy the plant needs to grow??

Is there anything more? Thank you for your help

  1. It's important at ANY stage of growth to any organism really...without active synthesis of proteins and compounds and maintaining of energy any organism would eventually die, some faster than others...

  2. i think it this way......at d very beginning d cells in a plant are at their basic level . the cell is nt ready to perform specific functions n survives only coz it gets nutrition ( think of a virus). slowly bt gradually the d cells develop their special characteristics and accordingly the cells differentiate to form differents organs of the plant body!

n fr all this development  energy is required wich is obtained from metabolism of the food it takes!
