Early pregnancy, so very tired?

Hello. I am 8 weeks pregnant with my first baby. My husband and I are elated after trying for two years. However, I am so exhausted. I wake up tired, and I get the occaisional burst of energy which gets all used up and then i need a nap. I am taking elevit (prenatal vitamin with iron), and I eat low GI low fat foods, and try to eat in small frequent meals.

Is early pregnancy supposed to be this tiring? I feel like I could sleep all day every day. Which doesn't help me get my uni assignments done!!

Any tips to get back some energy? Am I supposed to get this tired, or is it in my head?

  1. Being that tired is very normal for early pregnancy, your body is working over time to make that little baby inside, your body works harder at making a baby then you would work when not pregnant and being active. Try to take naps whenever possible or at least rest as much as  you can. But it is normal and its something that just has to be dealt with. But just be happy your pregnant, its good your tired because it means your body is doing its job on making that little one. Congratulations and good luck.

  2. Yah early pregnancy can be this way. Your going through many changes for that baby inside you. The best thing I can tell you to do is to drink lots of water and to take those vitamins. Also remember your baby will grow more now in the first trimester than in his/ her life. It's hard on baby too. if you have bad morning sickness try eating very nutritious food and eating smaller meals more often. Good luck and congrats.

  3. This is definitely part of early pregnancy. Your body needs extra sleep. Do your best to work around your needs for naps. It will get better with the next trimester.

  4. Congrats ! Your perfectly fine hun! Everyones pregnancy is different some women can walk miles preggie & not feel tired. I am about 14 weeks pregnant with my first too & feel tired alot of the time. I try not to sleep or nap when i suddenly feel tired , instead i pick a comfy place to lay, put my feet up , drink something  & read a book or tv. Doing something relaxing helps , cause i know when i fall asleep or nap i just end up putting my sleeping patterns out of whack & also end up feeling more tired than i was. You cant get rid of the fact your feeling tired nor is it a bad thing. Just relax , momma's deserve it <3

  5. i can tell you I went through that. it sucked. as soon as i woke up i was ready for a nap. i couldnt do ANYTHING without feeling exhausted. i always had a "cloudy head" becuase i was so tired. fortunately it gets better during the second trimester. around week 12 you will start to feel like your getting your energy back. for right now you just need to rest whenever you get a chance.

  6. It's very common and very normal to be so tired in early pregnancy.  It will pass soon and return in the final trimester until near the very end when it goes away again.  Sounds like you're doing everything you can.  Just try to get some more rest and I'm sure you'll be fine.

  7. It's normal to be extremely tired during the first few months of your pregnancy. I've been doing a lot of reading about this, because I'm going through the same thing. I never used to be able to nap in the middle of the day, but I sure can (and do) now.

Something that has helped me is to let my body wake up naturally, as often as possible, which can be rough since you and I are both in college, but if my body wakes up naturally instead of by an alarm, I seem to have more energy. If you have to wake up by alarm, try getting up doing whatever you need to in the morning (bathroom, food) then lay back down for fifteen minutes, whether you sleep or not. This helps me a little. I've also lightened my school load by one class. I always take extra courses, so I'm still full time, but it doesn't feel full time.

    Good luck and congratulations!
