Early races at Oxford produce several surprise finishes
The Oxford Greyhound Stadium in Oxford always has the inside track for some great 450m races. Some of the best racers in the sport participated in today’s early races, which featured some
surprising, unpredictable finishes.
Go Teddy was one of today’s surprise finishers, claiming a first-place victory in the A9 race. Staked with 8-1 odds before the race, he led at second, and cruised to a 28.37 second finish.
Collie (4-1), finished right behind him in second place. Her time of 28.47 separated her from the win by 1¼ lengths.
Moby d**k, the 10-1 long shot in this race, went very wide early on, but ran on to take third place in 28.57, which was 1¼ lengths behind Collie. Finishing in fourth place was 6-4 favourite
Killishin Mist, who moved quickly from the pack, and led to second. He raced to a 28.81 result that placed him three lengths out of the top three. It was a disappointing finish for the favourite, who only has two wins to his name since he made his debut on
8 September 2009.
Rounding out the pack were Yankie Robin (fifth place, 4-1), and Royalty (sixth place, 5-2). He finished the race with a time of 28.99 that placed him 2¼ lengths out of fourth place. Royalty
was forced to check halfway, and ran to a 29.15 finish that was 2 lengths behind Yankie Robin.
The A6 race that followed saw another unlikely contender pull off a big win. This time, it was Prima Star (8-1) who emerged victorious. Despite starting wide from trap five, Prima Star
rebounded to lead at fourth and complete the race in top form with a 28.08 finish. Only a neck’s length separated first place from second, with 6-4 favourite Eagles Storm just missing out on a win in 28.10.
Laying claim on third place was Kereight Gold (4-1), who finished the race 1¼ lengths behind Eagles Storm in 28.20. Hamilton Hero (3-1) came out of trap six with a stumbling start, but
ran on to place fourth in 28.34. He was 1¾ lengths out of the top three positions.
All the effort in the world failed to pay off for Hard Work (6-1), as finished the race in fifth place. He was 1¾ lengths behind Hamilton Hero with a time of 28.48. Despite a clear run,
Fancy Mavis (8-1) could mot maintain her pace with the rest of the pack, and finished last in 28.66. A distance of 2¼ lengths separated her from fifth place.
Racing fans will not have to wait long for the next series of races at Oxford Greyhound Stadium. A 12-race card will be presented on Saturday 18 September, with the first race beginning
at 19:25.
