Early return of LB Terrell Suggs astonishes Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco, others – NFL News
The Baltimore Ravens are astonished at the pace of recovery of linebacker Terrell Suggs from a partially torn Achilles tendon and return to action but the player himself boasted to have proven what he had said soon after suffering the injury in rather controversial
manners.
From quarterback Joe Flacco to some other players, the Ravens praised the heroics of the linebacker on joining the squad in their game versus the Houston Texans on Oct. 21. This did not move the player at all, as he while holding the media reports as evidence
said:
"The thing is, we said I was going to come back this year and we came back. You guys shouldn't have been shocked by it. Like I said, the only disappointing thing was I didn't come back in a winning effort. I pretty much didn't listen to what everybody else
said for the simple fact that we lost the game and we had a chance to be No. 1 in the AFC and we didn't do that."
Still, Flacco could not believe, although admitted he had faith in the LB's statements throughout. The offence leader said:
"There's a bit of me or probably all of us that said, `OK, he's talking himself into coming back, but how quickly is he going to be able to.”
It is pertinent to mention that early recovery claims by Suggs were not taken seriously by the team officials and players alike, as those were without a solid opinion from his doctors. Another reason for the disbelief was that usually these injuries have
many setbacks associated with the recovery process. The player has proved them all wrong.
The linebacker is also lucky to have escaped the possibility of pay cut for the recovery period. The rules allow teams to stop paying the players during recovery if their injuries occur outside the team facilities while doing work other than the regular
training and practice.
Some eye witnesses had laid claims that Suggs suffered the blow while playing basketball with local mates. The player and his agent denied them throughout and insisted that the injury occurred during a conditioning workout and at the team facilities. The
latter version was accepted by the management and they let the player free without any pay cuts.
