Earning public respect is my ultimate goal, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 – Cricket News Update
Australian skipper, Michael Clarke, has reiterated that earning respect of the people of Australia is his ultimate goal as an Australian skipper.
Clarke’s comments came after his phenomenal performance in the ongoing second Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at Sydney Cricket Ground.
In reply to India’s first innings total of 191, Clarke played a captain’s knock, scoring unbeaten 329 runs to take Australia to 659/4.
With 468-run lead in the first innings, the Kangaroos are in a dominant position in the game. The skipper is being highly praised by former players and cricket pundits for his marvellous skills as captain as well as a player.
However, Clarke is more inclined towards reacquiring public respect, whcih he thinks he has lost in the recent past.
"I've said it a million times and I'll say it again, it's about respect, continuing to earn the public's respect and that's all I've ever wanted. People are going to dislike me, that's life, the way it is, but the most important thing for me, especially
being the Australian captain now, you want your home fans to respect you, so that's all I've ever asked for,” said Clarke after third day’s play at SCG.
At the end of the third day, the tourists were on 114 for the loss of a couple of wickets in the second innings. Still trailing by 354 runs, it will be an uphill task for the Indians to save the game.
Clarke took over the captaincy charge following http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup last year. Since the Aussies have not been producing good results over the past two years, Clarke is under immense pressure to take the side
back to the top.
Many analysts feel that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120’s batting has improved with his captaincy, but the skipper believes it is too early to say this.
On his captaincy duties, the 30-year-old shared, "I enjoyed the vice-captaincy a lot. I thought it was fantastic to sit underneath Ricky and learn as much as I could from him, learn about leadership, learn about captaincy, learn about what it takes off the
field to captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.”
