Question:

Earrings and X-Rays at Dentist HELP?

Well, I have my ears double peirced. The second holes were done just recently. It's been 6 weeks but they are having trouble healing and so I can't take them out. But when I went to the Orthodontist they made me take them out for X-Rays and once I took them out they hurt going in and I had to nurse them back to being ok (and not red or painful). But I go to the dentist for the first time today (I switched dentists) and I think they might do X-Rays. And if so they'll make me take my earrings out. What should I do?

  1. They cannot MAKE you take them out.   You can always refuse.  If you don't want to, then tell them you don't want to.  They will either not take them at all, or take them and have pretty little earrings on them.

  2. If this is a new dentist they are going to need X-Rays to see what they are working with. If you have your most recent X-Rays take those they might can use them. It's also a very slight chance you can tell them about the earring healing problem and you can come back a later time way before 6 months to take them. Lastly you can call them on the phone before your appointment and ask them what you should do.

  3. Ask your old dentist to send the x-ray films to the new one.  You shouldn't need another set so soon.

  4. I have never had to take my earrings out.  I would suggest you just tell them you can't bacause they are new.  They only want pictures of your mouth so your ears should stay out of it anyways.  Good Luck.
