  1. Yeah, your ears will pop a bit since you're facing a rapid change in atmospheric pressure.  It doesn't hurt at all, it just feels a little funny.  Chewing gum and yawning will unpop them.

  2. It's the opposite.  Your ears hurt if they don't pop.  Ever heard a baby cry very hard when landing?  It's ears didn't pop.  Your ears need to equalize the air pressure between in side your ear and outside.  It either does it slowly and you don't notice, or you notice a bit of change and hear a popping sound when it does if it happens fast.  The popping doesn't hurt, more at it is relief if you were in pain.

You prevent the unequal air pressure, most likely at take off and landing, by chewing gum, yawning, opening your mouth wide, or if you really feel it - take a deep breath, pinch your nose and blow the breath out you nose.  Try that last one right now and see the results you will be looking for.

  3. Good Question Im going on a airplane on Sat. to stop your ears from poping you can chew gum on your trip if your going a long way like other side of the world get read because here it comes.

Ears popping does not hurt . Take it from me i been on airplanes at age 4.

  4. it doesn't really hurt, just a bit uncomfortable,

to help it sucking boiled sweets can help so take some with you, or pinching your nose and blowing also helps

  5. Yeah, when your ears pop, it does hurt a little, but more just uncomfortable if you're up high in the air (36,000 ft, for example), usually more during landing than take-off. It's really easy to avoid the bad ear popping though. It helps a lot if you chew gum, or suck on a mint or something. It doesn't hurt much if you're just going on a shorter flight, because you aren't as high up, so your ears don't have to go through so much with the atmospheric conditions and such.

    Have a nice trip(:
