  1. if it is a puppy less than 2 months of age then you should go for it because it is better for the dog anyway, his hearing would be much better and the ears do not become more prone to infections.

it costs between 90$ and under 200$, i mean it really depends on where you live.

  2. Unless you are planning to show in the Westminster Dog show, absolutely not! Cropping ears is not done much any more, and it is painful for the dog.

What breed do you have? How old?

Vicki: You can't just show up and show a dog at Westminster. You have to be invited.

Ummm, I have shown dogs for many, many years, I was making a joke. I thought that was obvious. I am well aware of the ins and outs of Westminister

  3. No no no... please, I beg of you, please don't crop his ears! He wasn't born that way so I am sure he would be thankful to NOT go through that agony, the poor thing. :-(

  4. I am guessing you have a pit bull?? If so how old is he?? I don't think you should, unless you are going to put the dog in shows, I am a vet tech and i see a lot of people wanting to crop pits ears and the pits are older dogs and that's sad it is better if you are going to do it, do it at a young age. but like i said its a really big sx for what it is so make sure its something you really want your dog to go through because it is a lot of pain and after care. It usually can be up to 1,200 depends on the vet you go to and the city you live in

  5. i have all my Pit Bulls ears cropped its a personal preference, it is not cruel, they do it between the ages of 9 - 14 weeks (varies a little) because the nerves are not fully developed in their ears, im taking it you have a Pit Bull... to me i like the look better of cropped, but its also done because this is a working breed less chance of their ears getting caught and torn... i live in Kansas and it cost $200+ , it depends where you live and the vet you go to. none of my dogs have ever had a problem with their ears being cropped, and they heal very fast.

heres a couple pics of my dogs with cropped ears

my dogs are working dogs, but even if i didnt work them i would still get their ears cropped.

theres no real proof that it lowers ear infection thats more of a Myth, also the hearing is the same... one thing i would say is that to ME they are easier to clean.

  6. To be honest no, The ears are really important for a dog to have. That and their whiskers. As they are animals, this helps them to hear and help watch out for trespassers and any warnings they should come across. I think it would be stupid to remove such an important thing from an animal.

  7. No, and not because of the cruelty issues but simply because you will notice that pit bulls tend to have ear issues even when not cropped. I have two and we are constantly cleaning and medicating their ears. When you have them cropped it gives more room for things to get inside the ear which could cause damage to the dogs hearing.

  8. I personally don't like the thought of cropping a dogs ears and think like on the Miniature Schnauzer, they look so much cuter with the whole ear instead of the cropped ear.  Also I have heard that you have to do it when the dog is still very young if not it will be too painful to them, especially if they are adults.

  9. NO! THAT'S CRUEL!

  10. What breed do you have? How old?

Vicki: You can't just show up and show a dog at Westminster. You have to be invited.

Nunyaria: Cropped ears only take 7-10 days to heal. Alot shorter than most surgeries.

  11. Don't get your dogs ears cropped.  It's painful, takes a long time to heal, and if they get infected your dog could be permanently affected.

  12. There's really no point unless you are looking to show him in dog shows. The only reason they crop dogs ears is so they will look like the original breed from a long time ago.

  13. It doesn't make sense to say that it would have better hearing if its ears are cropped.  There are loads of breeds with drop ears who hear as well as erect eared dogs.  Also, re. being less prone to infections - dogs with erect ears still get ear infections.  I have a naturally erect eared dog who suffers from recurring ear infections.  I have to be fastidious in keeping his ears clean.

You are also creating a wound on the dog which if it gets infected could cause all sorts of probems and expense down the track.

I think we should all love our four-legged friends for who they are and how they love us, not what they are or how they look.
