Earth Quake: Please respond fast?

We just felt a minor shaking of the ground, this is the first time I experienced such a thing. The ground shake was for 2-3 seconds but it was violent. Will there be an earthquake now? We live on the second floor of our four story apartment. Will it collapse if there is an earthquake?

  1. ~~There is a 95 percent chance there will be no further earthquakes for the next 24 hours, after which time it drops to 99 percent chance of no further earthquake worse than the original. So I'm confidant it's over, except for a few minor aftershocks-few if any you will even feel. You are safe in you apartment, just stay away from heavy objects, glass, etc if shaking starts. I have lived in Ca all my life (long time), and most of that time has been in a two story home. I have never seen anything collapse or know anyone who has, and we've had many, many, worse quakes than this one. Our building codes keep us very safe, I never fear or worry about an earthquake.~~

  2. Heed the warnings that mother nature is giving you.  I used to live in LA and moved far, far, away.

  3. STOP ! asking the same question calm down.. it's ok !

  4. that was the earthquake that you felt! they just revised their readings and it was 5.4 in chino hills. most buildings are built pretty well to where something like what we just felt wont make it collapse. i guess that was just a moderate eartquake they say.

    scary!

  5. you just experienced a 5.8 magnitude earthquake with no injuries or damage to report of. There may be aftershocks, which are usually  violent, so you should be aware.

  6. There may be after-shocks that will cause as much, sometimes even more damage than the original quake.  Be prepared and get to a radio where you can find out some good information.

  7. It probably will, if it is strong enough. If you start to feel the slightest rumble, then that could be the aftermath, just to be safe, I would take my family and valueables, and evacuate. The aftermath could arrive as soon as a few minutes after the earthquake, or a few days. Also, to be sure if it was an earthquake or not, which state do you live in? They are prone to the west coast, and there is a fault line in Tennessee, and I in the center of the United States. [There are more, but these are the few that I actually know about]

  8. Depends on how old the building is. The newer buildings have some special earthquake proof things at the bottom of them. If the building is old and there is a strong earthquake you should get out and find a wide open space away from the building.

  9. it was an earthquake dude.

look it up or turn on your  tv abc7 or kcal 9 or something or online at their websites. it was a 5.8 earthquake at chino hills, some 28-30 miles from downtown los angeles. I was there. =D

  10. Most of California's buildings (likely to include your apt.) are built using wood-frame construction so they WILL move during an earthquake (even a 5.8 like we had today.). It's highly unlikely your building will fall down even if you are in Chino Hills immediately over the epicenter.
