  1. I bet you the only way to forecast a pre-shock is to have one of those high-tech equipment scientists use.

    About 39 miles

Yeah but there will be little damage.

  2. 1. There is new technology which measures air pressure underground but it is only good for a few hours advance notice.  It needs a borehole that is deep and near a fault.  The USGS has an experimental one in Parkfield, which is about 200 miles northwest of where you are.  Other than that, dogs are good companions.

    2.  The Inland Empire is a very large place and the San Andreas runs through it near San Bernardion.  From Claremont the shortest distance to the San Andreas is about 15 miles to the northeast, over the San Gabriel Mountains.  If you go due east along the I-10 Freeway, you should cross the San Andreas at about 23 miles.

    3.  Unless you are very unlucky you will live through the next earthquake.  Follow common sense and have shoes nearby.  There will be lots of broken glass after an earthquake.

  3. Your chances of dieing form other causes before the next earthquake is greater than your chances of dieing from the earthquake. Even if you live on the fault line.

Best prediction come from governmental agencies, you can't do better.
