so yea the earthquake it and as we speak, there are probably smaller ones going on. I want to be prepared if a bigger one hits, so: I have two little siblings with me and my grandma because my parents are working.

If it ever hits i know that we should go either under a doorway or a sturdy table and when it's done, go outside. I also know that i should go next door if anything else happens.

Anything else i should take caution to? or remember?

  1. Have a plan.  Have it planned what table or desk you will get under. Practice with the younger kids getting to the safe place.  Make sure you all fit and know where to go asap.

    1. If you are indoors, duck or drop down to the floor. Take cover under a sturdy desk, table or other furniture. Hold on to it and be prepared to move with it. Hold the position until the ground stops shaking and it is safe to move. Stay clear of windows, fireplaces, woodstoves, and heavy furniture or appliances that may fall over. Stay inside to avoid being injured by falling glass or building parts. If you are in a crowded area, take cover where you are. Stay calm and encourage others to do likewise.

    2. If you are outside, get into the open, away from buildings and power lines.

Stay away from glass, windows, outside doors and walls, and anything that could fall, such as lighting fixtures or furniture.

Stay in bed - if you are there when the earthquake strikes - hold on and protect your head with a pillow, unless you are under a heavy light fixture that could fall. In that case, move to the nearest safe place.

Use a doorway for shelter only if it is in close proximity to you and if you know it is a strongly supported, loadbearing doorway.

Stay inside until shaking stops and it is safe to go outside. Most injuries during earthquakes occur when people are hit by falling objects when entering into or exiting from buildings.
