How would a 6.2 feel versus a 6.7 to a human, given the human was equal distance from epicenter in both circumstances, and the general type of movement and depth was equal?

How much more dangerous is a 6.2 versus a 6.7?

  1. The logarithmic nature of the Richter scale applies to the amplitude of the seismic activity (movement of the earth). Each step is greater than the last by a magnitude of 10. Therefore an earthquake 4 on the Richter scale has 100 times the amplitude than that of a 2. But relating the energy released to the steps of the Richter scale is another matter.

  2. your right it is logarithmic
