1. Shensi, China, 830,000 deaths

2. Tangshan, China, 255, 000 deaths

3. Aleppo, Syria, 230,000 deaths

4. Sumatra, 227,898 deaths

5. Damghan, Iran, 200,000 deaths

6. Haiyuan, Ningxia (Ning-hsia), China, 200,000 deaths

7. Ardabil, Iran, 150,000 deaths

8. Kanto, Japan, 142,800 deaths

9. Ashgabat (Ashkhabad), Turkmenistan, 110,000 deaths

10. Chihli, China, 100,000 deaths

Volcanoes are a little more difficult to find the information for but I have a list of 9 here in no particular order.

1. Thíra Island, Aegean Sea

2. Mount Vesuvius, Italy

3. Laki, Iceland

4. Tambora, Indonesia (this looks like it is the biggest by far on this list)

5. Krakatau, Indonesia

6. Montagne Pelée, French West Indies
