Earths magnetic field?

Websites claim the magnetic field is generated in the outer core, but how has this been proved?

  1. There is no real proof but it has been postulated from scientific principals.  It has to do with particle flow in a flowing liquid core.  There is some theories that the solid inner core is like one big magnet too.


  2. The outer core is liquid iron nickel. We know that it is liquid because it will not support S waves generated by earthquakes. The inner core is solid because it will support S and P waves. We  know that the core is probably nickel iron from examining meteorites and having calculated the density of the earth. That indicates that the core is mostly like iron-nickel
