I have noticed the lack of earwigs over the last few years. Other people i have asked have said the same, however, this year i have spotted loads in my garden, why could this be?

Welcome back, i never thought i would say this, but its really good to see you. Anybody else noticed this. x*x

  1. Yes, it's funny?

  2. its because of the wet hot sticky weather we are having. Earwigs or Labiidae like dark warm and damp places, so with the warmer weather upon us they ae now coming out to feed during the day wheras they usually feed at night and you would see more in woods and big gardens than a small concrete yard

  3. I havn`t seen one for years........

  4. thats funny you say that

i had one in he kitchen the other day

brought it in with some veggies from the garden

i found it as i was washing them

i picked it up and showed my wee boy as he wouldnt have seen one due to their scarcity the past few years and i commented how long it had been since i saw one

  5. Yes ....We have a few but I don`t welcome them at all  ...I hate them...!

  6. The damper weather suits them better.

  7. I have had 3 in my house in the past week and like others have said - i didn't realise I hadn't seen one (I think ever) until I saw these! I actually had to question myself and look it up to see if they were earwigs!!

I don't like them I think they are creepy and I'm afraid I don't welcome them back at all.... at least I don't welcome them back enough for them to pop into my house whenever they feel like it!

  8. I had one in my house the other day - I wasn't all that welcoming if I'm honest!

  9. I hate earwigs, I was always scared of them as a kid, they used to frighten you with stories that they crawled in your ears at night and eat your brain.

They like warm and damp, humid places, and this weather is just right for them to be seen at this time of year, in the summer.

I for one don't welcome them back, they make me squirm.

    you are welcome to them.

  10. I hadn't noticed that I hadn't seen one in years until one crawled over my pillow one night. (Which scared me half to death.)

Since then however, they seem to be everywhere. Or at least all over my garden, I am pleased to report no infestation of my house.

Its probably something to do with the weather we've been having, but it is nice to see them back. Especially as they are (apparently) some of the best mothers in the insect world.
