Question:

Ease and cost of child care for overseas family?

My husband and I are looking to come to the UK through an exchange teaching progam. Our concern at the moment is that we have a 2 year old and 4 year old who will need child care while we are working. Can anyone tell us how hard it is to get our children into decent care and how much it will cost us. We are starting to think about putting off the exchange until children are school age. Does anyone have any info on this topic.

  1. Hi there,

This depends on a lot of things - such as where in the UK you intend to live. You'll find that these things tend to get cheaper the further north you go! The London area will be quite expensive.

We're in Bedfordshire and private daycare costs anywhere between £30 and £50 a day, depending on where you go. Children aged 3 or over do get free sessions though - to the equivalent of 2 1/2 days a week, although I'm not sure if you have to be a British citizen in order to get that. It may work out cheaper for you to get a nanny (not necessarily live-in) as you only have to pay her once, rather than 2 lots of childcare costs!

    Good luck.

  2. Hi Take It Your From America Well If You Move To Somewhere Like London Or Essex Or Down By The Seaside You Will Find A ChildCarer Whenever You Want One And They Are Not Pricy Either I Think My Mates Mum Pays £20 Or Even Cheaper Then That For The Whole Day But I Am Not Sure Because I Think She Pays Monthly Hope This Helps You And Good Luck In The Uk You Will Like It!
