I am working on helping my son build a Pinewood derby car and he wants to design it as a Star Wars ship. I am not very handy but can get by. What is the easiest ship to make out of a block of wood? The maximum demsions are 7"(length) x 2-15/16"(width) x 3 1/16"(height). Any ideas, help, and pictures would be greatly appreciated. I would like him to be able to paint most when I am done carving it. He is 6 years old and is a good painter. Thanks in advance.

  1. I think the maximum dimensions for the width of the vehicle are going to limit what you can do. However, I suggest a Star Destroyer or an A-wing starfighter. Because of the triangular shape of both vehicles, I think you would have a better shot of capturing the essence of each in your son's pinewood derby car. I encourage you to browse the Star Wars Databank for information about Star Wars vehicles. You're bound to find something that you can imagine as a pinewood derby car.
