Question:

Easiest and best ways to 'go green'?

Well, I'm only 14, but I don't want to grow up in a planet that's c**p because of our stupid mistakes. So what's the easiest (and cheapest possibly.) to "go green?"

I know that getting the fluorescent light's helps a lot. But what else can I do?

(Should I shut my computer off when I'm done with it? etc.)

Thanks! =)

  1. A: first start simple,

shorter showers!. yaaa i have a timer( its shaped like a pepper) like 6-7 minute showers

use less plastic packaged stuff,  or look for recycable triangle

unplug like anything that has ("standby")saves money on electricity bills,

find a way to school thats like only YOU breathing. ( aka walk, bike, skateboard)

use lesss paper napkins, kleenx(<<bad btw) and papertowel

and at school especially, make sure the recycling is on( yell at them if the school has no recycling system) :)

thats all for now! btw im only 16!

  2. Buying less means less production and less pollution (and saves you alot of money). There are plenty of websites that can help you including http://www.selfsufficientish.com/ and http://downsizer.net/. Another really good site is http://www.downshiftingweek.com/ as it has ideas you can implement immediately for children, individuals and schools.

I'm so pleased that someone as young as you has such a keen interest in wanting to help the planet. You are a star.

  3. Recycling is the key. There are many products we use which can be recycled easily without throwing them away. We also should try to cut short the consumption of fuel and power unnecessarily.

  4. direct deposit and  e-statements, email

  5. You can start by using less "stuff...."

buy groceries that are locally produced

recycle your store and grocery bags

    refill your water bottle

keep your heating low and air conditioning high

    use public transportation

recycle paper, cans, bottle and even clothes

  6. These are some GREAT ways to go green.

Check out this site - http://www.worldwatch.org/node/3915

Also, when going out for Ice - Cream over the summer, eat out of a cone, not a cup. I saves a lot more trees!

    Hope I could help!

  7. avoid making polution....

    avoid smoking...

use solar panels to save electricity...

  8. Make sure that your house is hot water friendly as it takes alot of energy to heat water. Low flow showerheads do a great deal, as well as high efficiency water heaters or on demand water heaters. Obviously parents can work on those things, but as a 14 year old looking into the future (which I commend you for at your age) you can do alot to sway your parents ideas also.  The below website has an environmental learning center you may want to take a look at.

  9. Every single small change that you can make has a huge impact, even the little things add up:

=Change light bulbs (one pack at a time if cost is an issue, doesn't have to be all at once)

=Take your own reusable bags when shopping (I've already NOT used 1000's of bags from the grocery stores alone)

=Buy a large flower pot and start composting kitchen scrapes (it creates the richest soil ever! and you can even keep it on a balcony if you live in an apartment)

=Refilling your own water bottles is HUGE!

=Being more conscientious of turning things off around the house as I leave the room or am not using something

MOST IMPORTANTLY, start turning your diet GREEN!!!! Organics are no joke! We have to start cleaning our own bodies by not consuming so many chemicals and preservatives!

DON'T LET THE FACT THAT SOMETHING IS FDA APPROVED GIVE YOU A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY, REMEMBER THE FDA IS THE ONE THAT HAS APPROVED ALL OF THE CHEMICALS, PRESERVATIVES, AND ADDITIVES THAT ARE KILLING US TODAY! AND THE FDA DOES NOT APPROVE ANYTHING THAT IS NATURAL BECAUSE IT CAN'T BE PATENTED AND MONOPOLIZED!!!!!!!

I'm no Tree Hugger by any means, but these few these that I have changed already sure makes me feel good!

  10. its so much easier then some people think

just try producing less garbage, recycle everything that can be , take shorter showers, turn off lights, the list goes on & on

oh!& try to eat organicly (not expesive at all btw because most products you buy now are more expensive due to the wraper that its in)

  11. Build yourself a straw bale house that has a photovoltaic roof, reclaims all of its water, sells a small amount of excess electricity to the grid, provides energy to run your electric bikes, and grows most of your food right in front of the kitchen, and grows hemp for your clothing.

Now if that green is too hard, do parts of it.
