East Broadway vs. other parts of Vancouver BC?

Hi, I've decided to rent a room in East Broadway (close to the VCC Skytrain station) and I was wondering if this is a good neighborhood to live in? I'm gonna be there just for 3 months and then go back to Europe. What do you think about this place? Is it safe, interesting, etc - in comparison with other parts of Vancouver? (except downtown)

Thanks a lot

  1. Its not bad But metrotown is only a short distance by sky train  . it used to have a high crime rate

  2. It's a decent area! Not great, but not bad. Safety wise, it's getting better, there's still some crime...I'd try to avoid a basement suite, or anything easily accessible by criminals. It's a neat area, though, near the Drive and since it's near the Skytrain and bus stops it's easy to get around.

    Have a good move!

  3. This is not my favourite part of Vancouver. It's a little dodgier than some other parts. However, just a few blocks from Broadway--down Commercial Drive towards 1st--there is a pretty cool neighbourhood. Lots of indie restaurants, hippies in the park, and a general laid-back atmosphere. Some people will only live in this area because they love it so much (this is within walking distance to the Skytrain). And the rent is somewhat cheaper than other areas.

My favourite area to live in is Kitsilano--but this is because I love being close to the water. It's a little 'yuppier' than other parts of Vancouver, and more expensive to live in, but it is gorgeous. You're near Granville Island, Kitsilano Beach, and Jericho Beach. There are lots of great (but yuppie) shops along West 4th, and lots of great (less yuppie) shops along West Broadway. And, best of all, you're right near Jericho Park for the Vancouver International Folk Festival--one of the best music festivals in the world (3rd weekend in July).

Wherever you live in Vancouver, the transit system is excellent. If you decide to live farther west (say, near West Broadway, in Kitsilano), there is an express bus (#99 B-Line) that will take you to the Skytrain station very quickly--just get a transfer for the skytrain.

    Have a great time!
