East Lancashire to benefit from London 2012 Olympic Games
It has recently been announced that the London 2012 Olympic Games will also be used for the purpose of providing the people of the East Lancashire with a sporting legacy that is going to be enduring in such a way that more people would be inspired to take
up the sporting activity in the region.
The Olympic Games are scheduled to commence from July 27, 2012 and the day is set to be the trigger point for starting the activities to promote sports in the region of Lancashire.
The Lancashire Sports Partnership aims to take the initiative through the London 2012 Olympic Games to increase sports awareness among its people and to create more opportunities for sports in the region. The present situation in East Lancashire reveals
that only half of the adults in the area are involved in sporting activities.
Sophie, who is a local resident as well as a hammer thrower and a member of the Blackburn Harriers, said, “This is my dream, but I want everyone in the community to share in it with me. I want people to see the Olympics and be inspired to have a go at all
the different sports on offer. I didn’t know I was any good at hammer throwing until I gave it a go. A lot of people know about football around here, but there really is something for everyone with the Olympics and we need to highlight that. We could even
unearth someone really wonderful in our area.”
The London 2012 Olympic Games will be the third time that the international sporting event makes its way to the city of London. After having hosted the Olympic Games successfully this year, the capital of England will become the first ever city in the world
to have staged the Games for a total of three times.
The first time that the Games came to London was way back in 1908. The second time that the Olympic Games came to the city of London it was four decades later in 1948.
